Rothchild Summer Stipend for Music Study
Frederic Rothchild (1914-2002) began his association with 91²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ in 1953 as the first director of private music instruction. Rothchild became a member of the faculty in 1968 and retired in 1978. The stipend is made possible by Fred Rothchild's generous gift to 91²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ.
The Music Department of 91²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ sponsors a stipend of up to $1800 for music study during the summers. Applicants submit proposals in the spring for summer projects that culminate early in the following fall semester in a presentation open to the 91²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ community.
Eligible recipients are students who have been formally enrolled in a music class (including Music 101, 104, 105, 107, 108, and 109) during the current academic year and who will be returning full time for the next academic year.

2019
Eli Knowles studied composition with Myra Melford and Marty Ehrlich. Presented a recital of his compositions written for a small jazz ensemble.
2018
Kate Ehrenberg studied pipe organ with Greg Homza and performed a recital of organ works by Bach, Brahms, Pachelbel, Schroeder and Vierne.
Nikhil Wadhwa studied Jazz guitar with Dan Balmer
Eli Knowles attended Jazz Institute at Stanford and performed a selection of jazz standards with a small ensemble
2017
Gregor McGee worked with Paul Irvin, early keyboard technician to restore a harpsichord and performed a concert on the instrument.
Emily Palmer studied Chopin etudes with Monica Ohuchi and Jeff Payne to develop a strong basis in piano technic and performed them on a F@4 concert.
Saba Goodarzi took lessons with oud-master Rahim AlHaj and presented a lecture recital on Iraqi and Iranian modes and rhythms
Daniel Woodruff studied jazz piano with Angelo Versace at the University of Arizona, focusing on solo playing and performed a 30 minute set on a F@4 concert.
Ben Baran studied composition with Yuan-Chen Li.

Gregor McGee attended Oberlin College: Baroque Performance Institute fo study harpsichord.
Daniel Woodruff studied jazz piano with University of Arizona professor Angelo Versace.
Henry DeMarais studied solo violin works written in the 20th century with Michael Jinsoo Lim.
Yiyang Wang attended the Golandsky Institute at Princeton University to study the Taubman approach to piano technique.
