91²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ's Wireless Network

Note: Starting in 2024, the campus network is being upgraded over a multi-year process. As our infrastructure team updates the network in each building, you’ll notice different wireless networks. “91²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ1x” is being replaced with “91²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ” in the upgraded buildings. Community members may need to connect to "91²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ1x" or "91²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ" and visitors will need to connect to "91²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵXenia" or "91²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ Guest" depending on their location on campus.

91²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ1x/91²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ vs. 91²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵXenia/91²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ Guest

Those who want to use wireless at 91²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ will see two networks available--"91²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵXenia" (or "91²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ Guest" as the network gets upraded across campus) and 91²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ1x (or "91²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ"). 91²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵXenia/91²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ Guest is an open wireless network for campus visitors (Xenia is the ancient Greek concept of hospitality, the generosity and courtesy shown to those who are far from home). 91²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ1x/91²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ is a WPA2-encrypted network that can be used by students, staff, faculty and alumni. Guests and visitors cannot join the 91²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ1x network.

Wireless is available in all buildings on campus, as well as some outdoor areas near buildings. Wireless is not generally available in larger outdoor areas. 91²ÝÝ®ÊÓƵ actively monitors and adjusts placement of wireless access points to fine-tune coverage on campus. Due to channel interference among other complications, users are generally not allowed to operate a personal wireless network.
